It is already a well-known fact that wine has a positive impact on our health and we are in no hurry to contest it. But how do we know which wine is better and, more importantly, why?

What we know is that moderate consumption of wine helps prevent heart disease and improves the immune system, plus it has a big impact on reducing stress and your mental state in general. Wine contains a large amount of minerals, such as potassium, calcium or magnesium and water-soluble vitamins, such as B1, B2, B5 and B6 that intervene in the optimal maintenance of the immune and nervous system.

The vitamin intake of wine is determined by the grapes and how do you obtain it.

In the case of white wine, the grapes are crushed, the white must is obtained, which then ferments until it becomes wine. Red wine is obtained by macerating the must (pulp) of red or black grapes together with the grape skins, for 20 days, which allows the vitamins and all the beneficial elements contained in the peel to pass into the wine.

Grape skin contains many antioxidants, such as resveratrol, which prevents premature aging of our body’s cells. The antioxidants have the ability to reduce the oxidation of fats circulating in the blood, such as LDL cholesterol and thus preventing them from sticking to the walls of arteries.

The result is that red wine contains more antioxidants than white wine, and now we know why! However, don’t worry if you love white wine, it is still a good and healthy choice, even without all the resveratrol in red and black grapes!
